Kentridge took 8th this year in State: A defeat to many... but a victory to us.
Having not accomplished a victory such as this in nearly 8 years (making it to state)... our KR Boys Water Polo team made it as far as we could in an unexpected and cheerful winning-streak this season.
A fight at regionals brought us in to the High School Boy's Water Polo State Championship Tournament. With the first lost against Roosevelt High School the team had diminished hope. Team-mates Spencer Kolke, Nick Hass, and Tyler Lantz earn honorable mention in turning the team's attitude into passion. They came back fighting hard!
Notwithstanding the total of 3 losses at State, the Boys continued in strengthening their KR Family, with some of them fighting their last fight for Kentridge as the Seniors of the team. As the fight commenced against our final opponent, Bainbridge High School, we began to see a complete turnaround in the desire of these Boys. They were at State, and they were there to play like a "state team" (Capt. Sterling Connell). They left it all in the water that sunny Saturday afternoon: They made us proud. We walked away with smiles on our faces as we gathered together, some with tears in their eyes, for the final cheer of the year. These boys are family. What an incredible year.
Captain Sterling Connell leads the parents and team in the final cheer of the season at the end of the State Championship Tournament held at Curtis High School in University Place, WA.
With mixed emotions, players and parents chanted "Oorah", some with tears in their eyes, some with an excitement for the years to come.
It was a hard thing to end this year, arguably harder than most years prior... These boys played together, they prayed together, they fought together, they laughed together: They were family.
